Sure enough! Cultures for Health offered a nice how-to-make-kombucha video and our experiment has been in process. I saved the last bottle he drank with a few ounces left on the bottom, and stuck it on top of our fridge for a few weeks to grow a culture. Today, the experiment continues. I've added sugar, and am currently steeping the tea and waiting to add the culture. It then needs to sit for another 5-7 days, and I'll let you know what he thinks!
What is kombucha, you ask? Great question. Wikipedia gives a helpful definition, calling it an effervescent tea-based beverage that is fermented with yeast and bacteria. Hmm... I'm super new to all this fermenting business; I need to keep reading Nourishing Traditions!
Can you see the culture floating in the tea?
There it is!
I'll let you know how it turns out!On an unrelated note, Chris is busy in the kitchen working on chicken enchiladas. I am super excited about the delicious possibilities! I'll post the recipe if it turns out as well as I think it will!
