As you know, we've been transitioning our eating for 10 months now. It recently came to my attention, that, duh, there are other chemicals in our environment that I should probably pay attention to - like in my laundry detergent, dishwasher soap, hand soap, other cleaners, toothpaste, hand lotion, shampoo and conditioner, etc, etc. Whew. Time for another overhaul.
A friend pointed out that when I use my typical brands, they have all sorts of junk in them! Great, more junk. This is junk like propylene glycol, which is a known carcinogen. (Well, not known to me prior to this point, but apparently known by somebody.) This ingredient is found in a high percentage of our body care products.
There's another really yucky ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate, which is used to clean blood off the highway, and is found in things like my son's toddler toothpaste and shampoo. Nice. (Btw, watch out for flouride in toothpaste too - it actually damages your teeth...and your brain).
I stocked up at Target today on 7th Generation - hand soap, dishwasher gel, bathroom cleaner, and toilet cleaner. (Hooray for a hangtag that was $2 off a purchase of two 7th Gen products!) I'd already made a multipurpose cleaner out of vinegar and water. I picked up some GreenWorks laundry detergent at Costco and also found some glass cleaner by them at Target. We've also *hopefully* purchased our last pack of paper towels. I have lots of cloth diaper foldables (that weren't used as diapers) and I'm going to try using those in place of paper towels. Yay, green! =)
One other fun thing this week - I got more raw milk!! And farm eggs! The milk came from a co-op in Keller and I'm so excited to have it! More and more of our food isn't coming from the grocery store anymore, between all the co-ops! Saving $$ and eating better!
I used that same $2 off 2 hangtag for our laundry detergent (free & clear)! VERY handy...Glad you found great milk and eggs! I've found milk, but the supply is not always dependable and I'm still looking for eggs.
